Lyn and I dropped by Nigel Roberts’ house in Rozelle, Sydney, yesterday evening, to admire the extensive herb gardens Nigel has planted and cared for and to accept a large bunch of fresh basil. Lynn Hard joined us, famous for his curating of the Australian Defence Force Academy Library in the 1980s, including dozens of interviews with writers, hundreds of new poetry manuscripts and a rare video of poet John Forbes reading and talking about his poetry. With his deep American voice, Lynn had recently recorded a voice-over for a 1920s text by US writer Henry Miller, of «Sexus», «Plexus» and «Nexus» fame: an amateurish piece of work, in Lynn’s opinion. A few glasses of a cold and very pleasant New Zealand dry white rounded off the visit.
